Before joining China Sunbow Law Firm, Mr. Kevin Yu had practised Chinese intellectual property laws, particularly in Chinese patent laws for many years working as a full-time patent attorney and attorney-at-law in several top-tier Chinese law firms exclusively practising Chinese patents and trademarks in their Beijing and Shanghai offices. He is quite familiar with the Chinese Patent Laws and its Implementation Rules as well as the Chinese patent examination guidance and practice.
During working in those law firms mainly practising Chinese intellectual property laws, Mr. Yu mainly focused his practice on Chinese patent applications and prosecutions, including PCT application for entering into Chinese national phase as well as handling the related office actions thereof for many foreign clients before the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office. Mr. Yu has already represented many domestic and foreign clients to have successfully filed hundreds of Chinese patent applications and prosecutions and taken care of the related office actions during the examination phases, and further handled numerous patent re-examination and invalidations before the Chinese patent re-examination board and patent litigations before Chinese people’s courts. He also provides patent infringement analysis and free-to-operate legal opinions and advises on patent transfer too. Mr. Yu has served many famous domestic and foreign clients in a wide range of technologies, particularly in the areas of pharmaceutical and chemical research, development, and processing, such as organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, pesticides, medicine, fine chemicals, polymer chemistry, cosmetics, chemical processing equipment, and household products, etc. Thanks for his extensive knowledge and familiarity with the Chinese patent laws and practice, he has often been keynote speaker at numerous Chinese IP events and seminars and he often writes Chinese legal draft articles concerning Chinese patent law and practice. Thanks for his backgrounds in both medical and chemistry as well as on Chinese laws, he has represented many medical and pharmaceutical enterprises to have successfully won back their patents during the invalidation litigations.
Mr. Yu is charge of our firm’s patent department for such kind of patent matters in relation to the application, prosecution and OA response as well as the invalidation process in the technologies in chemistry, medicines and pharmaceuticals.
