Language Capabilities

Most of our partners, associates, paralegals and supporting staffs are fluent in English, French, Mandarin and other Chinese dialects such as Shanghainese and Cantonese. English is our working language for communications with international clients and we have accumulated extensive experience in proficiently drafting various legal documents, agreements and contracts, memorandums, legal opinions and analysis in both English and Chinese for all kinds of commercial transactions involving China.

Thanks for our partners and associates’ practice with international law firms for long and deep understanding on Chinese legal systems, we are skilled in reconciliation of Western and Chinese legal concepts and we can prepare for all kinds of legal documents both in English and Chinese for business transactions in China. Chinese is the official language in China. All legal documents submitted to the competent Chinese authorities shall be drafted or translated into Chinese. However before submitting all required legal documents to the competent authorities, we will also draft those documents in English for our clients’ review. If our clients have different views or requirements but complying with Chinese laws and regulations, we will make respective adjustments to our preliminary drafts. If our clients have such views or requirements conflicting with the current Chinese laws, we will explain to our clients but design an alternative structure. In any events, only after obtaining permissions from our clients after their reviewing the legal documents we have drafted, we will then submit the respective Chinese translations of those legal documents to the competent governmental authorities.

We are also able to deploy teams to conduct due diligence and prepare for the respective due diligence reports in English though all the documents provided by the targets are in Chinese. During all the China related transactions, we will negotiate with the Chinese counterparts of our foreign clients in Chinese but prepare for respective reports in English for clients. Apart from these language capabilities of our associates, we have also employed some other professional translators who have knowledge and experience in legal terminology.
